GCSE Equivalents

At Harrogate Tutors we provide GCSE equivalent qualifications for maths and English to our learners. These qualifications allow you to gain entry to Universities and make you a more viable candidate to employers. The most important and relevant GCSE equivalent qualification for you depends on the course you are applying to.

The equivalency tests are most commonly taken by trainee teachers who need the qualification to get onto an initial training course. They are also helpful to get onto nursing and midwifery courses as well as other courses. A Star Equivalency is the leading provider of these exams and also offer proven revision material that boost the learners chances of passing the exams. The links below are of the subjects we offer:

For the learners looking to further their education at university or increase the chances of them being employed, functional skills level 2 qualifications are generally the most relevant GCSE equivalent. Since the pandemic, Ofqual have made it possible to sit an online exam from the comfort of your home. The following enable you to revise and book functional skills.

Other GCSE equivalents include:

BTECs (Business and Technology Education Council)

BTEC level 1-2 is a GCSE equivalent that learners are able to take at college. They focus on vocational subjects targeted at specific job sectors and industries with no GCSE equivalents in maths and English.

Cambridge Nationals

Cambridge Nationals are similar to BTEC’s in that their focus is also on vocational subjects which aim to improve employment opportunities in specific sectors. There is no provision for maths or English.

NVQs (National Vocational Qualification)

An NVQ2 is a GCSE equivalent but again is a vocational qualification. They are welcomed by employers in the specific area they are relevant to. They cannot replace a GCSE or functional skills in maths and English and therefore they are supplementary qualifications and you will still require level 2’
